Ryan Anderson is active for first time this season, team announces

Anderson averaged 16 points and six rebounds last season for the Pelicans.

New Orleans Pelicans' forward Ryan Anderson will play tonight against the Philadelphia 76ers, the team announced.

Anderson averaged 16.2 points and 6.4 rebounds per game on 38.2-percent shooting from range last season. The stretch four broke his right toe right before the regular season and has been held out of basketball activities since.

The 25-year-old adds spacing to a Pelicans offense that has attempted the second fewest three-pointers in the NBA through nine games. He’s averaged nearly seven shots behind the arc per game for the past two seasons and that deep shooting threat should help open up New Orleans’ offense.

Just five days ago, it was unclear when Anderson would be able to return, but news broke Saturday that he will be available for the Pelicans’ game against the Sixers.

The Pelicans lost to the struggling Jazz on Wednesday and the team has lost three straight games after a promising 3-3 start.
