Andrew Bynum to be ‘aggressively shopped’ by Cavs, per report

The Cleveland Cavaliers are turning to the trade block with Andrew Bynum after suspending the center and dealing with reports that he has lost interest in basketball.

The Cleveland Cavaliers handed mercurial center Andrew Bynum an indefinite suspension on Saturday morning for conduct detrimental to the team. Now, it appears that he may be a serious candidate to be traded before his contract becomes guaranteed on Jan. 7, per a report from ESPN.com.

Bynum signed a two-year, $24 million contract with the Cavs based largely on incentives in July. Just $6 million of his 2013-2014 salary is guaranteed before the Jan. 7 cutoff. At that point, his guaranteed money doubles to $12 million.

That will likely affect trade considerations for Bynum, who could be swapped and waived, saving the incoming team serious cap considerations.

Reports also surfaced from Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski that Bynum lacks the drive to continue to play the game at an NBA level, with a source telling the reporter that Bynum has “never liked [basketball] all that much in the first place”. Bynum was reportedly a “disruptive” presence in the locker room and the Cavaliers were past the point of believing he could succeed in Cleveland.

Per the report, the Cavs are aggressively shopping Bynum, with no potential trade suitors known at this time. Bynum is averaging 8.4 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game.
