J.J. Redick was targeted by many teams, but the Magic ultimately decided to deal him to the Milwaukee Bucks for Beno Udrih, Tobias Harris and Doron Lamb.
Tobias Harris heads to Magic with opportunity

Jeff Hanisch-US PRESSWIREUdrih should only be a valuable asset for the rest of this season and nothing more permanent. And under the new CBA, the Magic will keep their cap space in hopes that a crop of youngsters will yield one or two contributors down the road.

Chris Humphreys-USA TODAY SportsUdrih has a $7.4 million salary that expires after this season. While Harris and Lamb are locked into their rookie deals through next season and are trade assets or players to develop, the 30-year-old point guard could be viewed simply as a salary that will be off the books next season.
So Udrih is now insurance to keep the team somewhat afloat. The Magic have lost 15 of their last 16 games, and the veteran point guard’s savvy will be a calming thing for Vaughn’s team during a frustrating rebuilding mode. Udrih doesn’t shoot very well beyond the arc (26.5 percent), but he shoots 47.5 percent from the field, taking what he’s given.

Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY SportsLet’s consider this for each side.
In the end, the Magic didn’t get the first-round pick they wanted. Instead, they get an expiring contract, one OK prospect in Harris and one that probably won’t amount to anything in Lamb.

Kim Klement-US PRESSWIREUdrih offers a couple of attractive commodities for the Magic. Making $7.3 million this season in the final year of his deal, he’s a large expiring contract and he’s still a competent point guard adept at running a half-court offense off the bench, a skill that Orlando could use.

Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY SportsSpurs out on deal for Redick

Kim Klement-US PRESSWIRESeveral teams have been rumored in the Redick trade discussions, and the Spurs emerged as a potential destination early Thursday morning. Wojnarowski tweeted earlier in the day that the Spurs were an attractive option for Redick, who owns a house in Texas and would be jumping from a team at the bottom of the standings to one at the top. It’s unclear what snag hit the trade talks, but they apparently came to halt rather quickly and the Spurs “fell short” of putting together an acceptable package for Rob Hennigan and the Magic.

Kim Klement-US PRESSWIREThe Magic have received multiple offers of late first-round draft picks for Redick, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports:
Redick will become an unrestricted free agent this summer, and it is rumored that he will be looking for a four-year, $40 million deal. He may not get that much, but Redick figures to land something in excess of the mid-level exception on his next contract. For now, he’s a player that contenders are trying to acquire before the playoff push begins.

USA TODAY SportsWhat this boils down to is what Orlando is looking for in a Redick trade. If they truly are dead set on getting a good young player and a pick, then Memphis probably has no chance. But if other teams continue to balk at the Magic’s demands, perhaps they would be more receptive to the Grizzlies’ offer.

Sam GreenwoodRedick, an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, has been in a fixture in trade rumors, since an Orlando team beginning a long rebuilding process doesn’t appear to have much of a need for a role player in the prime of his career.
Milwaukee, which is currently in the No. 8 spot in the East with a 26-25 record, is a team that fits the profile of a buyer at the deadline. However, neither Redick nor Ellis could swing to the small forward position, so moving Mbah a Moute and a future first-round pick for a guy who could only play 20 minutes a night for the Bucks probably doesn’t make much sense.
Read Article >Shumpert-Redick trade talks reportedly happened

Douglas Jones-US PRESSWIREDespite rumors that Iman Shumpert hasn’t requested a trade, his name continues to pop up in rumors, most recently in one that would have sent him from the Knicks to the Orlando Magic in exchange for J.J. Redick. From HoopsWorld reporter Adam Kennedy:
Both players have been bandied about heavily in trade talks, and so far as hypothetical trades make sense, this one does: Shumpert is the only player on the Knicks under the age of 27, he’s got loads of talent and the Magic are rebuilding. And Redick has come on strongly this year, and would provide another knockdown shooter for a team that lives and dies by the three.
