Portland Trail Blazers guard Wesley Matthews suffered a sprained left ankle during Wednesday night's game vs. the New Orleans Hornets on the road.

The Blazers guard dodged a bullet when the good news broke that there was no fracture on his left ankle.

According to SB Nation’s own Blazers Edge, Matthews escaped a severe injury as subsequent X-rays on the ankle revealed no fracture. The Blazers have reported that he will not return, but despite that fact, it’s still the best-case scenario given the team’s circumstances.
That's good news for a team trying to remain in the playoff race in the Western Conference. Portland is currently in ninth place, one game out of a playoff spot behind the Houston Rockets.
With the dangerous Los Angeles Lakers in tow, the Blazers can't afford any substantial injuries. The fourth year guard out of Marquette is averaging 15.2 points, 2.8 assists and 2.9 rebounds in 45 games started in 2012-13. With the All-Star break looming, he should have plenty of time to let the injury fully heal.
