Former NBA All-Star guard Mookie Blaylock was taken off life support Friday night and upgraded from critical to serious condition on Saturday following a car crash, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Former All-Star guard Mookie Blaylock has been upgraded from critical to serious condition following a car crash in suburban Atlanta on Friday afternoon.
The 46-year-old Blaylock was initially put on life support after a devastating car crash on Friday afternoon in suburban Atlanta. Blaylock was driving northbound on Tara Boulevard in Clayton County when his Cadillac Escalade swerved over the median into oncoming traffic.
Blaylock’s SUV crashed head-on into another vehicle, injuring two others, Frankie and Monica Murphy. The three were transported to Atlanta Medical Center, where Monica Murphy, 40, died from her injuries. Frankie Murphy did not suffer any serious injuries.
Blaylock has been getting treatment for seizures, but it’s unclear whether that played a part in the crash. The former guard also had an outstanding warrant out of Spalding County on DUI and drug charges for failing to appear in court, but alcohol is not believed to have been a factor in the wreck.
Blaylock played 13 seasons in the NBA, including seven seasons with the Atlanta Hawks from 1992-99. He finished with career averages of 13.5 points, 6.7 assists and 4.1 rebounds, and he made one All-Star team in 1994.
Blaylock currently lives in Zebulon in Pike County.
