Mookie Blaylock sent to jail after hospital release

Former NBA All-Star Mookie Blaylock is being held without bond at an Atlanta jail on charges of vehicular homicide after surrendering to police on Monday, the USA Today reports. Blaylock was released from the hospital recently after being injured in a car crash south of Atlanta.

Authorities also charged Blaylock with driving on a suspended license, making an improper lane change and crossing the median in the head-on crash for the May 31 incident in Jonesboro that a killed 43-year-old woman. Blaylock’s attorney says he blacked out prior to the crash.

A first-round pick in 1989, Blaylock played in the 1994 All-Star Game and earned NBA All-Defense honors six times. Starting 800 of 889 games, he averaged 13.5 points, 6.7 assists, 4.1 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game. No player in the league recorded more steals per game during the 1996-97 and 1997-98 seasons.
