Clippers coaching search: L.A. reportedly wants to interview Nate McMillan

The former Blazers coach is among the candidates of interest for the vacant coaching job.

The Los Angeles Clippers are trying to schedule an interview with Nate McMillan, most recently the head coach of the Portland Trail Blazers, the Los Angeles Times is reporting. McMillan, who also has coached the Thunder before Scott Brooks, joins Indiana assistant Brian Shaw, former Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins, former Cavaliers coach Byron Scott and, most recently, current Celtics coach Doc Rivers, as potential head coaches in Clipperland.

It's been generally accepted since Vinny Del Negro's contract wasn't renewed that Chris Paul, who has a pending free agency this summer, would have a major hand in choosing the new coach. It's hard to know exactly what that means in the context of a Nate McMillan pursuit; he's never coached Paul in the past, and is known for being tough to deal with as a point guard. The discussions with Scott make a lot more sense if Paul is truly running the show.

The Times' Broderick Turner reported that the Celtics turned down the Clippers' request to interview Rivers, throwing another wrinkle into an extremely complex story. The Clippers organization might be the franchise most in flux this offseason, second perhaps to the Denver Nuggets.
