Tiago Splitter may have played poorly in the 2013 NBA Finals, but it didn’t hurt his value. The center will re-sign with the Spurs for $36 million over four years.
Spurs get a fair price for Splitter

USA TODAY SportsThe San Antonio Spurs, scared of a potential offer sheet from the Portland Trail Blaazers, have reportedly agreed to a four-year, $36 million deal with free-agent center Tiago Splitter.
Those who only watched the 2013 NBA Finals are probably laughing at this contract, but that was a bad matchup and a bad seven games. Perceptive fans who watched Splitter and the Spurs consistently all season understand that this is fair value for his services.

USA TODAY SportsSplitter expected to receive lucrative offer sheet

Kevin C. CoxIt’s unclear just how big of an offer sheet the Spurs are willing to match for Splitter, but they do have plenty of cap space, so they’re in a good position to match. Perhaps San Antonio will wish to use that money elsewhere, however, Splitter was productive for them last year and losing him for nothing wouldn’t be ideal.
Splitter averaged 10.3 points and 6.4 rebounds for the Spurs last season.

Soobum Im-USA TODAY SportsThe qualifying offer extended to Splitter is worth $4.5 million for San Antonio. Drafted by the Spurs in 2007, he made his debut with the team in 2010 after spending time overseas. This past season, he averaged a career-high 10.3 points and 6.4 rebounds in the 24.7 minutes per game he was on the floor.
The qualifying offers make both Splitter and Neal restricted free agents. They can field offers from other teams, but San Antonio now has the right to match any offer should they choose.
