NBA free agency: Tiago Splitter and Spurs finalizing agreement, according to report

With the Portland Trail Blazers threatening to swipe Splitter from San Antonio, the Spurs quickly worked out a deal.

Tiago Splitter will receive a hefty pay raise from the San Antonio Spurs, and the two parties are finalizing an agreement on a four-year, $36 million contract, according to Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski.

The deal was pushed forward on Tuesday as the Portland Trail Blazers, desperate to add a veteran center, were nearly ready to extend an offer sheet to the free agent big man.

Splitter, who made $3.9 million in the 2012-13 season, will now make more than twice that annual salary. The deal, along with the Indiana Pacers' agreement with forward David West to a three-year, $36 million extension, adds to the climbing market value for capable big men.

Averaging 10.3 rebounds and 6.4 assists during the regular season, Splitter struggled in the postseason and averaged just 6.1 points and 3.1 assists per game. Nonetheless, San Antonio seemed poised all along to lock up their frontline, giving aging Tim Duncan a capable sidekick and backup, depending on the lineups.

San Antonio was also interested in free-agent big man Greg Oden, the 2007 NBA Draft's first overall pick, according to Yahoo! Sports. The Spurs were listed as a favorite to land the former Trail Blazers center, though there were a number of other teams also showing interest.
