The Philadelphia 76ers have hired San Antonio Spurs assistant Brett Brown to be their next head coach, according to Sports Illustrated's Ian Thomsen. The deal is guaranteed for four years.
Sixers hire Brett Brown as next head coach, according to report
It took some time, but the Sixers have finally hired a new head coach, signing Spurs assistant Brett Brown to a four-year deal.
The Sixers had their eye on Brown for quite some time, and they put forth an offer on Friday. Negotiations continued over the weekend amid reports that associates close to Brown were urging him to turn down the job because Philadelphia is headed toward a 60-plus loss season.

However, Brown has decided to take on the Sixers' rebuilding project, which includes Nerlens Noel as one of the centerpieces. Noel is still recovering from a torn ACL, but Philadelphia is gunning for Andrew Wiggins in the 2014 NBA Draft, so they'll likely urge the rookie big man to take as long as he needs in his recovery.
Brown started in San Antonio as the director of player development in 2002. He became an assistant under Gregg Popovich in 2006 and remained in that position until now. Brown is the second Spurs assistant to nab a head coaching job this summer, with Mike Budenholzer taking over as head coach of the Atlanta Hawks.
