The Philadelphia 76ers will fill out a new coaching staff under Brett Brown and that means they will not bring back former Doug Collins assistants Michael Curry, Jeff Capel or Aaron McKie, the team announced Friday.

The Philadelphia 76ers won’t retain Michael Curry, Jeff Capel or Aaron McKie as they move forward under newly hired head coach Brett Brown.

“This decision takes nothing away from the talent and loyalty of Michael Curry, Aaron McKie and Jeff Capel, but is more about making a fresh start here in Philadelphia,” said Brown in a release. “I respect the way this staff did their job and how they handled themselves with tremendous class and professionalism, which needs to be acknowledged. I am grateful for all the work they’ve done this off-season leading up to this decision.”
Curry was considered a candidate to replace Collins, who resigned at the end of the 2012-13 season. General manager Sam Hinkie took months to hire a new head coach and eventually settled on Brown, who joined the Sixers this past week after serving as an assistant on San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich's staff.

Curry joined the 76ers in 2010. McKie, who had been on staff since 2007, is a former Sixers guard who, with Allen Iverson, led Philadelphia to the NBA Finals in 2001. Capel coached for the Charlotte Bobcats before joining Philadelphia in 2011.
According to Liberty Ballers, the Sixers said during Brown’s introduction that they would like to have a coaching staff in place by September.
The decision to put together a completely new coaching staff isn't surprising considering the 76ers have been intent on rebuilding their own way. Since Hinkie's hire in May, the team traded its only All-Star, Jrue Holiday, for the draft rights to Nerlens Noel and also picked talented but raw point guard Michael Carter-Williams.
