Turkey vs. USA, FIBA World Cup 2014: Game time, TV schedule and more

Turkey and the USA square off on the second day of group play.

Blowing past Finland 114-55 was a solid opening for USA Basketball in the 2014 World Cup, and the impression it made on the rest of Group C was that field goals will be hard to come by. Turkey is next up and will face Mike Krzyzewski’s team on Sunday afternoon hoping it can hunt down decent shot opportunities.

Turkey narrowly defeated New Zealand by a 76-73 score in its World Cup opener. Center Oguz Savas led the team with 16 points. Small forward Emir Preldzic added 14 points and power forward Baris Hersek scored 11 points. Both of those frontcourt players can stretch the United States defense to the three-point line, which means starting power forward Kenneth Faried and bench contributor Rudy Gay will be counted upon more on that end.

New Orleans Pelicans center Omer Asik is the only NBA player represented on the Turkish squad, but he played just 10 minutes in the opening win.

For the United States, avoiding complacency after a blowout victory is an obvious focus. Building more offensive familiarity with one another and continuing to impress on defense against a Turkish squad that is more versatile than Finland will be keys.
