If Embiid hits qualifying criteria this season — like making an All-NBA team — this could be a $178 million deal over five years. Woj reports there’s a clause in there that would allow the Sixers to waive Embiid if he’s physically unable to play and the player wouldn’t get all the cash.
As such, it’s complicated to figure how much of a risk this deal is for the Sixers and how good or bad it is for Embiid. Except for the fact that he has played 31 games, and he was so damn good in those games that he locked up a potential $178 million deal. It speaks highly of Embiid’s talent.
