Warriors vs. Thunder 2017: Kevin Durant returns to Oklahoma City

There’s no Sports Mom who has a better Twitter than Wanda Durant, Kevin’s mother. On Monday, she posted a photo of herself in a cupcake T-shirt and declared her love for the dessert. Of course, as you probably know, this wasn’t just about pastries.

The Warriors made their only trip to Oklahoma City this season on Saturday, meaning Kevin Durant visited his old team for the first time since leaving them over the summer. Thunder fans gave him a warm welcome of boos, followed by some more boos, and then some more. Durant’s mom was upset at the “vicious, hurtful” things shouted at her son at the game, for one.

Kevin Durant returned to Oklahoma City for the first time since leaving the team during free agency over the summer, and Thunder fans welcomed their former All-Star with a parade a boos that echoed throughout Chesapeake Energy Arena on Saturday.

Fans also booed Durant when he took the court for pre-game warmups, but his Beats by Dr. Dre headphones likely come with a noise-cancellation feature specifically designed for events like tonight’s.

Kevin Durant is finally returning to Oklahoma City after leaving the team and city in free agency last summer. He played for the Thunder for eight years, so it’s expected for fans to be hurt by his departure. Early Saturday morning there were already “KowarD” shirts making their way around the internet, and as we got closer to the game, we saw more and more.

Saturday marks the first time that Kevin Durant is playing in Oklahoma City as a member of an away team. Ever since he left for the Warriors in the summer, it hasn’t been his home. But now, upon his return, he’s starting to realize that even more.

Even spots that he frequented aren’t welcoming him with open arms. According to USA Today’s Sam Amick, Durant wanted to rent out Mahogany Steakhouse, the Oklahoma City restaurant he and the Thunder used to go to after games, but was denied by the establishment’s owner:
