Everyone’s losing their streaks (except the Grizzlies)

We have that and more in Monday’s NBA newsletter.

The Rockets had won 17 straight games — a heroic feat — when they visited Toronto on Friday. The Raptors ended all that, picking up a win with a genius defensive gameplan to limit Houston’s ability to hit threes.

The Warriors had racked up seven straight wins before the Blazers beat them behind Damian Lillard on Friday. (The Timberwolves got in on the action, beating Golden State on Sunday for good measure thanks to a monster performance from Karl-Anthony Towns.)

The Pelicans had won 10 straight until the Wizards stopped them on Friday. New Orleans lost a crucial game to Utah on Sunday, too, despite Anthony Davis picking up a triple-double with blocks.

Portland has the longest active win streak now with nine, and Toronto’s on an eight-game run. The longest streak to survive the hot NBA weekend, though? Memphis, who lost Friday and Saturday (by 34 to the Mavericks, mind you) and have now lost 17 straight. Fans are finding a way to cling on to the good times, though.

... And So Much More

March Madness is here. Time to get a crash course on the top NBA prospects playing in college. So ... can DeAndre Ayton go No. 1 over Luka Doncic?

The Lakers smacked the Cavaliers in LA Sunday night, but LeBron James had the best no-look pass of the season. Meanwhile, Indiana’s big win combined with that Cleveland loss pushed the Pacers into the No. 3 seed in the East, which is absolutely wild.

The Thunder beat the Spurs on national TV on Saturday. Can they start a run down the home stretch and make noise in the playoffs?

Reports suggest Kawhi Leonard will return this week.

Jamal Murray has had one quite dicey late-game showboating episode against the Lakers, and followed it up last week not with penance, but with trash talk in garbage time toward LA’s bench. The Lakers are mad going into Tuesday’s rematch between the teams. Denver fans, meanwhile, love it.

The Warriors, who are constantly feeling themselves, are the NBA’s sloppiest passers.

The importance of Jonas Valanciunas and Jakob Poeltl in Toronto’s huge Friday win over Houston.

What John Wall will need to do to adjust to the Wizards’ new excellence.

Whitney Medworth’s B-Sides leads with a smiling DeMarcus Cousins. Always good to see.

Just four games on Monday, but two of them are on ESPN. Those are Spurs-Rockets at 8 p.m. ET and Heat-Blazers at 10:30.

Be excellent to each other.
