Your latest reminder that these Cavaliers are far from invincible in the Eastern Conference and, in fact, might actually be doomed came on Friday as Victor Oladipo and the Indiana Pacers sliced up Cleveland with a 34-point win in Game 6. Losing a close-out game -- it happens. Losing a close-out game by 34 points. Woof. Wooooof.
Good news: LeBron James in a Game 7. Bad news: It’s only the 1st round.
We have that and more in Saturday’s NBA newsletter.

LeBron James led the Cavaliers with 22-7-5 plus 2 blocks, but he was a minus-24 in 31 minutes, which is bad. He continues to receive quite limited support. George Hill is out with an injury. Larry Nance is the only regular other than Hill and LeBron shooting better than 50 percent, and Nance is taking fewer than four shots per game. Three starters -- Kevin Love, J.R. Smith, and Jose Calderon -- are shooting less than 33 percent from the floor.
And while the Cavaliers have overperformed on defense in this series, it’s hard to keep that up for a 7-game series, as Indiana’s offense in Game 6 -- led by an ultra-efficient Oladipo -- shows.
So here we are with a Sunday Game 7 for LeBron. In the first round. If Cleveland still makes the NBA Finals again, that story is going to be mighty interesting to tell.

We have a Game 7 on Saturday! One of the greatest two-word phrases in the English language right there: Game 7. Right between “peanut butter” and “dilly dilly” in the two-word phrase pantheon.
That Thunder-Jazz Game 6 was ... something. Rick Rubio got injured in the first half, which you would think should spell doom for Utah. But no! Donovan Mitchell just took over long enough for the Jazz to build a lead, and they held on for dear life from there to win the series. Holding on for dear life included watching the Thunder miss six consecutive shots during their eternal final possession, kept alive by offensive rebounds and finally killed by a controversial non-call on a Paul George three.
Russell Westbrook had two run-ins with Utah fans leaving the court. One included slapping a Jazz’s fan hand out of his face. After the game, Westbrook said Jazz fans say “a lot of disrespectful, vulgar things.” This is a well-earned reputation for Utah fans.
This was not how this season was supposed to end for the Thunder.
Raptors Bench has successfully occupied the nation’s capital. Assimilate or perish. Kudos to Toronto, who moves on to face the survivor of Cavaliers-Pacers. Kudos also to the Wizards, who now get to listen to John Wall complain about the supporting cast for the 200th time. (He’s not wrong.)
Best wishes too to Otto Porter, who had surgery after doctors discovered a scary compartment syndrome situation.
Royce Young on whether this is the end or a rough beginning for this era of Thunder basketball.
Back to Russell Westbrook for a second, since this has become a thing among the most prominent basketball writers out there. Someone wrote that a player going solo down the stretch and taking every shot has never worked. This neglects that Westbrook’s basketball hero is Kobe Bryant, and that Kobe has five rings! Kobe did this all the time. All the time. He didn’t win titles because he did this -- the Lakers were always better when there was balance. But Kobe did this and won titles. Convincing Westbrook that he shouldn’t follow that model and should instead pass to teammates who shrank in the moment is a job I won’t be volunteering to take on.
Sweet story from Sam Amick on Jrue Holiday’s family.
Mike Prada’s breakdown of what makes Donovan Mitchell special is really good and now increasingly relevant since we have at least four games of him this postseason. He’s been unreal in these playoffs.
All the new “Icon” and “Statement” lines of WNBA jerseys. I really like how the Las Vegas Aces uniforms came out.
Be excellent to each other.
