Quelle surprise: LeBron James led a team back to the NBA Finals for the eighth straight year. This one was a fight to the end as the young, promising Celtics pushed Cleveland to the brink before LeBron settled matters in the fourth quarter and gave his Cavaliers an 87-79 win.

We have that and more in Monday’s NBA newsletter.

It was another brilliant LeBron elimination game -- he had 35-5-9. It was another brilliant 2018 postseason performance. He kept faith in his teammates all game long, passing to them in scoring position. They couldn’t hit anything for a while, but slowly came along. LeBron’s faith paid off.
If you’re Brad Stevens, all you can do is look at the boxscore and laugh. The Celtics played smart and tough. LeBron was just too good. Like usual.

Paul Flannery says goodbye to a wonderful, improbable Celtics team.
There were two mammoth MOMENTS in Game 7. The first was LeBron getting a particularly nasty block on Terry Rozier on the open court, and then staring down the entire Garden crowd for like 10 seconds as the Cavs broke the other way. It was a piece of art. The other was 20-year-old Jayson Tatum putting down one of the most electric dunks that has ever been placed upon LeBron’s head. As a rookie in the fourth quarter of a Game 7 with the NBA Finals up for grabs. Kid’s gonna be special.
11 things that have happened since the last time LeBron missed the Finals.
Word to Jeff Green, who had open heart surgery seven years ago and was the second best player on an Eastern Conference champ on Sunday.
Chris Paul and Andre Iguodala are both doubtful for Game 7. Cue ominous music. The Warriors are six-point road favorites.
Dear German TV broadcasters, that’s ... that’s not Dwyane Wade.
Marcus Smart began his free agency pitch immediately after the game. Respect.
Legit LMAO at Kobe trying to broker peace between LeBron and Jordan partisans by ... inserting himself into the debate?
LeBron and Dan Gilbert barely acknowledge each other as the trophy ceremony ends. Beautiful.
What LeBron is doing on his Instagram page this postseason is incredible.
Be excellent to each other.
