No. 13 Wisconsin’s 71-67 defeat of No. 1 Ohio State on Saturday isn’t really an upset, given that the Badgers were actually the slight favorite. There’s no doubting, though, that the come-from-behind win over an undefeated team was a special achievement. Wisconsin fans stormed the floor at the Kohl Center once the buzzer sounded, but according to the Buckeyes’ Jared Sullinger, fans literally spat in his face. After the game, he tweeted:
Jared Sullinger Says Wisconsin Fans ‘Spit In My Face’ After Win Over Ohio State
#BuckeyeNation if you ever decide to rush the court. Don't ever spit on the opponents. Just a lil tip from me to you.
To be spit on is just nasty. On top of that in my Face. Before and after the game. Smh. I just kept walking. More fuel to the fire.
The Kohl Center crowd grew steadily more excited throughout the second half, and it’s easy to believe that the court-storming grew unruly. Given the excitable mob storming the court, there wouldn’t have been much in the way of personal accountability, so unfortunately, it’s easy to believe that an incident like this would occur.
For the first time in my life, I’m going to borrow from Joe Buck: that was a disgusting act. Regardless, Ohio State closes out its regular season at home against Wisconsin, and the spitter(s) in question certainly didn’t do their team any favors.
