Shortly after being fired by UK, Gillispie sued the school for breach of contract. Kentucky countered that, despite being in Lexington for two seasons, Gillispie had never actually signed a contract. If a report from ESPN’s Andy Katz is to be believed, Texas Tech University is on the verge of hiring Billy Gillispie as their new basketball coach, a little more than a week after the school parted ways with Pat Knight. Pat, the son of legendary Indiana and former Texas Tech coach Bob Knight, coached the team for three full seasons, plus 10 games in the 2007-08 season after his father’s retirement.

Pat Knight’s firing as Texas Tech’s basketball coach is now official, thanks to confirmation from a school spokesman to the Associated Press.
Knight will coach the Red Raiders through the Big 12 Tournament, and presumably through any subsequent postseason play this year, should they pull off a miraculous run through a conference tournament with titans Kansas and Texas.
