No. 19 Louisville vs. South Florida: Bulls Keep Tourney Hopes Alive; Upset Cardinals, 58-51

South Florida kept their NCAA tournament hopes alive with a 58-51 win over No. 19 Louisville on Wednesday night.

The South Florida Bulls limited the No. 19 Louisville Cardinals to just 17 points in the first half before keeping their NCAA tournament hopes alive with a 58-51 win at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Ky., on Wednesday night.

“Can they [keep us out of the tournament]? I don’t know. I hope not. It’d be a little disservice to our league and how strong it is, but we’ve just got to keep winning,” Bulls head coach Stan Heath said after the game, according to The Associated Press. “We can’t worry about it. We want to play great basketball down the stretch and we’re starting to get better. We’ve got room for improvement, too.”

South Florida got 16 points from Jawanza Poland in the win, which pushed them to 19-11 overall and gave them a 12-5 mark in the Big East. The Bulls have won six of their last seven and will close out their regular season at home against the West Virginia Mountaineers on Saturday afternoon.

Senior night in Louisville was spoiled by ice-cold shooting from the Cardinals, who went just 18-of-53 from the floor and connected on only five of 21 three-point attempts. Seniors Kyle Kuric and Chris Smith led the Cardinals with 14 points apiece. With the loss, Louisville drops to 22-8 overall and 10-7 within the Big East. They'll visit the No. 2 Syracuse Orange at the Carrier Dome on Saturday afternoon.
