Frank Martin To Be Named South Carolina Basketball Coach, According To Reports
Frank Martin is expected to leave Kanas State to become the next head basketball coach at South Carolina.
Martin just finished his fifth season at K-State, where he led the Wildcats to three straight NCAA Tournament appearances. He amassed a career record of 117-54 and went 6-4 in the Big Dance.
Kansas State and Martin agreed to a new contract in 2010 that runs through 2015. The deal pays him an average of $1.55 million per year after signing bonuses, but before performance-based bonuses. According to the contract’s renegotiation clause, if a new arrangement between Martin and K-State is not met by June 1, his buyout to leave Manhattan would drop from $1 million to $500,000.
Martin will replace Darrin Horn, who was fired on March 13 after four seasons with South Carolina. The Gamecocks ended the 2011-12 season with a record of 10-21 and went just 2-14 in SEC play. They lost 11 of their final 12 games, including a 63-57 defeat to Alabama in the first round of the conference tournament.
