Frank Martin’s South Carolina Contract Makes Him SEC’s 4th Highest-Paid Coach

South Carolina managed to lure Frank Martin away from Kansas State with the promise of big money, and now they’re delivering on that promise.

Frank Martin’s contract with South Carolina will make him the fourth highest paid coach in the SEC, this according to details provided on Twitter by GamecockCentral.com.

According to the site, Martin’s full contract is for six years and will pay him $11.9 million. He will be paid $1.9 million during his first season, $2.0 million for his second and $2.1 million for every year after that.

If he is fired, USC will pay Martin 66 percent of his guaranteed compensation per year for the remaining years of his contract.

South Carolina will also pay the $1 million buyout payment Martin owes his former employer, Kansas State.

Martin just finished his fifth season at K-State, where he led the Wildcats to three straight NCAA Tournament appearances. He amassed a career record of 117-54 and went 6-4 in the Big Dance. He will replace Darrin Horn, who was fired on March 13 after four seasons with South Carolina.

The Gamecocks ended the 2011-12 season with a record of 10-21 and went just 2-14 in SEC play. They lost 11 of their final 12 games.
