UConn Basketball Denied Final Appeal, Ruled Ineligible For 2013 NCAA Tournament

Since January, it has been a possibility that the Connecticut Huskies might be unable to participate in the 2013 NCAA Tournament. On Thursday, that possibility became a reality. UConn will be staying home the next time March Madness rolls around.

Assistant Director of Athletic Communications Phil Chardis announced via his Twitter account on Thursday that UConn’s final appeal to the ruling has been denied by the NCAA Committee on Academic Performance.

The Huskies were ruled ineligible based on Connecticut’s two-year Academic Performance Rate. The Huskies came in well below the requirement for eligibility in 2009-10, although their numbers improved significantly in 2010-11, so their future eligibility is not out of the question.

Chardis noted that although the Huskies are currently ineligible for the 2013 Tournament, they could still wind up playing, should the Academic Performance Rate measurement criteria be lowered prior to next year.
