Alabama Vs. South Carolina: Stephen Garcia Gives Up Safety On Fumbled Snap

Alabama trailed by 12 entering the second half. One South Carolina offensive snap later, it’s only a 10-point deficit.

Stephen Garcia let a bad snap get by him, fielded it at his own 5, then chest-passed it out of the back of the end zone without turning back to see the Alabama rush. It’s a costly safety, one that more than makes up for Jeremy Shelley’s missed extra point at the end of the first half and swings momentum to Alabama to boot.

Steve Spurrier’s been playing both Garcia and Connor Shaw at quarterback this season. Garcia’s near-flawless first half might have gotten him a full game under center today, but his baffling safety will probably change that.
