Ohio State makes quick work but small points off its first drive, taking a precise three minutes to go from their own 20-yard line to Penn State's 9 before two meaningless pass plays by Terrelle Pryor reduce the Buckeyes to a 26-yard field goal.
The two schools trade three-and-outs, which in the Big Ten is only polite, and then Matt McGloin takes over the bulk of work from Evan Royster. Seven of the next ten plays are passes, the last one a completion from McGloin to Justin Brown for a 23-yard touchdown with 4:19 remaining in the quarter.
Jaamal Berry gets a nice 28-yard kickoff return for the Buckeyes, and Pryor gets 12 more yards with his feet on first down, but he just can't seem to complete any early passes. Ohio State gives it back, and in an effort to pull PSU back from an 11-yard penalty, McGloin completes a nice little 16-yarder to Brett Brackett. And that's about where we'll leave it for now. At the end of the first quarter, Penn State leads Ohio State in Columbus, 7-3.
