Oklahoma State Vs. Oklahoma: Sooners Score Swiftly, Yet Again; Cowboys Respond With Field Goal
Just moments after Oklahoma State scored on a Justin Gilbert kickoff return to cut Oklahoma’s lead to 40-38, Oklahoma went to the air to put up six points. Landry Jones lofted a pass beautifully to James Hanna, who took the ball the rest of the 76 yards for a touchdown, Oklahoma’s fourth through the air on the night. With the extra point, the Sooners restored their lead to a two-possession advantage, going up 47-38.
Immediately after Hanna scored, three of the last six plays from scrimmage had been touchdowns, and the two teams had averaged nearly 30 yards per play on those snaps. Add in Gilbert’s kickoff return, and four of the last seven games had gone for six points.
Oklahoma State couldn’t quite match that pace, but did manage to chip away at the Oklahoma lead with a field goal drive. Dan Bailey just made a field goal that narrowed the Sooners’ lead to 47-41, and, with no timeouts remaining, will have an onside kick for the game.
