Not only should it have been Gators ball, they should’ve gotten a penalty boost. But since a flag wasn’t thrown, officials had to work with what happened on the field. What happened was Auburn picked up the ball.
Since the game was scoreless at that point and Auburn put up a touchdown shortly after, who’s to say the 17-6 final wouldn’t look quite a bit different if this one had OH WHO ARE WE KIDDING Auburn games always work out this way.

The battle for the worst offense in the SEC has finally come to an end, as Auburn comes away with the victory. The Gators had Auburn pinned deep in their own territory and forced a punt, but returner Robert Clark muffed the punt and Auburn was able to recover the football and burn clock. The Tigers added a field goal to put the game to 17-6 and all the pressure on Florida’s offense.

A lot of that has to do with the fact that Florida’s offense has been completely ineffective, but the Gators also have had trouble stopping the run and one thing Auburn does well is stop the run. Jay Coulter over at Track Em Tigers points out that head coach Gus Malzahn might have trouble getting the ball in all of his talented backs hands.
