Michigan State Vs. Wisconsin Final Score: Hail Mary Gives Sparty Thrilling Win

The undefeated Wisconsin Badgers and the Michigan St. Spartans appeared to be headed to overtime, tied 31-31 after Russell Wilson and Montee Ball put together an 87-yard touchdown drive in the closing minutes of regulation. But then Sparty. OOOOOOOH Sparty. Kirk Cousins struck Wisconsin's Jared Abbrederis on a hail mary from midfield, which bounced into Keith Nichol's hands at the one, where a host of Badgers attempted to peel him from the end zone.

After a review, it was clear he’d crossed the line. Touchdown. 37-31, Michigan State. Let’s react:

So how’d we get in this fix, anyway?

Down by a score, the Badgers needed a Heisman-worthy drive from Wilson in order to knot the score up in the closing minutes. Wisconsin reached midfield thanks to two strong Ball runs and a Bradie Ewing catch, but a holding penalty altered the game plan. How about a 42-yard heave to a returning Nick Toon? Yep!

Abbrederis caught a sideline shot to force first and goal with just over a minute to go, then Wilson scampered and found Ball for the touchdown. It all looked kind of easy.

The Spartans attempted to retaliate, with Cousins at least converting a first down to ensure the Badgers wouldn't have a chance to kick a field goal before the fourth quarter ended. But a Cousins fumble, recovered by Sparty, severely limited their chances of driving for the winning score. MSU was able to reach midfield with nine seconds left, Cousins fired, and that's Big Ten history.
