Maryland senior Andrew Gonnella left the field in an ambulance on Saturday after suffering a serious leg injury.
Andrew Gonnella Injury: Maryland Senior Suffers Compound Fracture To Leg
“I didn’t see what happened, but I heard people saying there was bone sticking out,” safety Eric Franklin said, according to the Washington Times. “We just have to keep him on our prayers and hope for a speedy recovery.”
Gonnella was injured during the fourth quarter of Maryland’s loss to Georgia Tech. The game was stopped for roughly 15 minutes while he was tended to on the field. The injury occurred in the middle of the pile and was not readily apparent on television; ESPN opted against showing the replay, apparently because it was deemed too gruesome.

Either way, it’s clearly a serious injury, and one that may cost him the rest of the season.
