Lane Kiffin Fined $10,000 For Lamenting Pac-12 Refs

The Pac-12 hit USC coach Lane Kiffin with a $10,000 fine for comments he made about a mysterious, vanishing time out.

USC Trojans head coach Lane Kiffin was fined $10,000 by the Pac-12 for comments he made after his team lost in triple-overtime to the Stanford Cardinal. Kiffin claimed he was told his team would have a chance to call a last-second time out and thus try for a game-winning, 50-yard field goal, but the opportunity never arose.

From the Orange Country Register:

Kiffin said Sunday that he already had contacted Pac-12 Conference officials, including a phone call from the locker room to a person he declined to identify “to express what happened and how I was basically lied to.”

He’s not the first, and he won’t be the last, to complain about the quality of Pac-12 officiating. And even though there’s no joy quite like seeing Kiffin in a tizzy, it’s just plain inconsiderate to deny a long field goal of a man who really, really likes long field goals:
