The Michigan State Spartans were able to pick up a solid victory over the Iowa Hawkeyes on Saturday behind the arm of quarterback Kirk Cousins. The Spartans led 31-7 at halftime before leaving with a 37-21 win.

Cousins threw all three of his touchdown passes in the first half to give his team a large lead, eventually finishing with 260 yards through the air on 18-of-31 passing. That’s actually a solid line considering Sparty converted on just four of 16 third-down attempts.
Running back Le'Veon Bell was solid on the ground, too, rushing 20 times for 112 yards and a touchdown. On the whole, Michigan State ran the ball 40 times for 155 yards, good for a solid 3.9 yards per carry average.
The Hawkeyes' statistics in the box score are nothing to be ashamed of, but quarterback James Vandenberg struggled to complete passes. The junior attempted 47 throws but completed just 22 -- albeit for a solid 262 yards and two touchdowns to offset an interception. The biggest problem for the Hawkeyes, however, was the running game, which managed just 87 yards on 30 rushing attempts.
