And thus begins one of the most rousing and incomprehensible renditions of Iowa State’s fight song in human history. I suspect Rhoads and the rest of the Cyclones cared a bit more about the rousing part.

And with that, it’s over for Oklahoma State. A simple Friday night matchup against Iowa State didn’t seem like too tough a task for the No. 2 Cowboys, but what transpired was almost jaw-dropping. The high-powered Oklahoma State offense struggled all night as the Iowa State defense clamped down, eventually forcing overtime. And in the second overtime, a Cyclones interception gave Iowa State a prime opportunity to pull the upset in front of the home crowd.
The Cyclones didn’t bother with a field goal, instead driving inside the five on the ensuing possession. And then, chaos: Jeff Woody plunged into the end zone from four yards out, giving Iowa State the upset win.

The first overtime came and went in Ames, with both the Oklahoma State Cowboys and Iowa State Cyclones scoring easily. Iowa State has hung around all night, forcing overtime with a fourth quarter touchdown and a bit of luck on a missed Oklahoma State field goal. And after both sides made quick work of their possessions in the first overtime, we’re headed to a second.
It took Iowa State all of one play to score in overtime, thanks to a brilliant call. All it took was a play-action throwback to a wheel route, and the Cyclones were in the end zone, and it control. One play, 25 yards, and a 31-24 lead over undefeated, and second-ranked, Oklahoma State.

Maybe it’s not Oklahoma State’s night. The No. 2 Cowboys squandered an excellent chance to put the upset-minded Iowa State Cyclones to bed late in the fourth quarter, controversially missing a field goal with just over a minute to go. The field goal was incredibly close, but ruled no good on the field with no review.
Oklahoma State put itself into position after intercepting a Josh Barnett pass in Iowa State territory. Barnett’s pass appeared to have been tipped at the line, setting up the Cowboys in prime-position to put the nail in the coffin.

We’re tied in Ames after the Iowa State Cyclones drove the length of the field for a touchdown with just over five minutes to go in the game. The No. 2 Oklahoma State Cowboys have had their hands full all night, struggling to muster an offense along the way. And in the fourth quarter, Iowa State struck back, finally knotting up the score after hanging around all night.
With plenty of time left in Ames, Oklahoma State and Iowa State are knotted up at 24.

After the Iowa State Cyclones pulled within 10 points of the Oklahoma State Cowboys on a long touchdown run, they were able to surprise Okie State with an onside kick and recovered it.
