The Big Ten is devoid of BCS National Championship Game championship contenders: just check the Week 13 USA Today poll and the Week 13 AP Poll, and that’s easily understood. But the conference has a few Big Ten Championship Game contenders left.
College Football Standings: Big Ten Championship Game Nearly Set
Michigan State has things handled in the Legends Division. The Spartans are 6-1 in conference, and by virtue of their head-to-head win against Michigan, will be the division champions even with a Week 13 loss to Northwestern; the Spartans will play in the Big Ten Championship Game.
Their opponent will be either Penn State or Wisconsin. The Nittany Lions are 6-1 in conference, and the Badgers 5-2, but they meet in Madison in Week 13, and will play what amounts to a Big Ten Championship Game play-in game for the Leaders Division title.
The bright side for the Big Ten in all of this? Barring something insane that leads to three SEC teams in BCS bowls, it is rather unlikely that the conference will have just one BCS team: enough of the conference’s teams have massive fan bases that will be very alluring for bowl selection committees.
