Rutgers Vs. Connecticut Score Update: Huskies Up 14 At Half

Fighting to keep their bowl eligibility hopes alive, the Connecticut Huskies took a 24-10 halftime lead over Rutgers at Rentschler Field on Saturday afternoon. The Huskies took a quick 7-0 lead just two minutes into the game after recovering a Rutgers fumble. Lyle McCombs took it in from ten yards out for the 7-0 lead.

After another quick Rutgers turnover, the Huskies added another touchdown for the 14-0 lead. Taking over inside Rutgers territory on a Chas Dodd interception, UConn freshman quarterback Scott McCummings would punch it in from five yards out for their second score in as many possessions.

UConn would take a commanding 21-3 lead on Rutgers third turnover of the game, this time scooping up a Chas Dodd fumble on the nine yard line. Kendall Reyes pounced on the loose ball and scampered in for the defensive touchdown.

In the second quarter, the Scarlet Knights would finally put together a touchdown drive to cut the Huskies lead to 11. Rutgers capitalized on UConn penalties and pounded the rock on the ground five straight times. Jawan Jamison finished the drive with a one yard touchdown.

Rutgers is trying to keep its Big East title an BCS hopes alive but the Huskies’ 21 points off turnovers has certainly put them behind the eight ball heading to the second half.
