The Ohio St. Buckeyes introduced interim coach Luke Fickell on Monday, making the former assistant the team’s first new head coach since Jim Tressel took over before the 2001 season. Tressel, you’ll recall, resigned a few weeks ago as scandals came crashing and howling onto Columbus from every angle. Have fun, new guy!
Luke Fickell Introduced As Jim Tressel’s Replacement At Ohio State
Athletic director Gene Smith on the promotion:
We look forward to refocusing the football program on doing what we do best - representing this extraordinary University and its values on the field, in the classroom, and in life. We look forward to supporting Luke Fickell in his role as our football coach. We have full confidence in his ability to lead our football program.
Pressure won't be standard Ohio State-level insane for Fickell in 2011, as he'll have to deal with the loss of Terrelle Pryor, his first five games will field a roster depleted by suspensions and, with spring football well in the rearview, he's also taking over midstream. But still, it's Ohio State, so plenty of eyes are on Fickell now.
