The circle of violence continues. After Phil Simms threatened to fight Desmond Howard over criticism of Matt Simms, Howard has now set up a match between Jim Tressel and Buckeyes predecessor Woody Hayes. In an interview with the Omaha World Herald’s Big Red Today, Howard lamented Ohio State’s being unable to give Michigan its best shot in 2011, adding:
Desmond Howard Says Woody Hayes Would Punch Jim Tressel ‘In The Throat’
You’ve got coach Bo Pelini, who played at Ohio State. He played at Ohio State when I was at Michigan. So he understands the Big Ten. He has that blue-collar mentality, that rough, rugged, physical style ... It has to sicken him seeing (the events at Ohio State). Guys who came up in our era, listen, if Woody Hayes was around now, I’m thinking he would grab Jim Tressel by the collar and punch him in the throat. Because what he has done to that program, it’s just embarrassing.
He’s probably right, but mostly because Woody Hayes would punch pretty much anybody over anything. You’re certainly distressed he didn’t say Hayes would grab Tressel by the vest, though.
