Michigan State kicks off its season with Youngstown State of the FCS, the former coaching spot of ousted Ohio State head coach Jim Tressel. The Spartans are coming off a surprising 11-1regular season run last season to earn a share of the Big Ten title. They return a wealth of offensive skill players, including quarterback Kirk Cousins, running back Edwin Baker and wideouts Keshawn Martin, B.J. Cunningham and Keith Nichol.
Youngstown State Vs. Michigan State: Game Time, TV Schedule, Odds And More
The Michigan State Spartans will use their season opener against Youngstown State as a warm up for the bigger fish of the B1G conference.
They will almost certainly put up points, but that may not be enough to offset their significant losses on defense. Most notably, the Spartans will be without All-American Greg Jones manning the middle linebacking spot.
Youngstown State will be overmatched in this one, though as always one has to keep in mind the examples set by Appalachian State and James Madison University in recent years. Still, the Penguins are far removed from their days of winning national titles under Tressel. The team returns 14 starters from last year’s 3-8 squad.
Game Date/Time: Friday, September 2; 7:30pm ET
Location: Spartan Stadium, East Lansing, MI
TV Channel: Big Ten Network
Spread: Michigan State by 34
