The Michigan St. Spartans hold a 14-6 lead over the Youngstown St. Penguins with less than half of the second quarter left to play. The two teams held each other scoreless during the first quarter of play, but the Spartans opened up the scoring early in the second quarter.

Michigan St. quarterback Kirk Cousins and running back Edwin Baker led the Spartans down the field for 80 yards, watching Larry Caper run the ball in for a six-yard touchdown. The Penguins answered back on the next drive by marching down the field for 62 yards. Kurt Hess found Jelani Berassa for a 10-yard touchdown.
Cousins responded on the first play of the next drive with a 55-yard pass to B.J. Cunningham. Le'Veon Bell rushed the ball on the next three plays, picking up 19 yards and a three-yard touchdown.
