The Michigan St. Spartans have created some breathing room in their game with the Youngstown St. Penguins with a third quarter touchdown. After leading 14-6 at halftime, the Spartans waited until late in the third quarter to add to that lead.

Kirk Cousins led the Spartans down the field for 75 yards. He capped it off with an 18-yard pass to B.J. Cunningham on the 11th play of the drive. Cousins is 11-of-15 for 169 yards and the touchdown pass so far. Cunningham, in addition to his touchdown reception, had a 55-yard reception in the first half that set up Le'Veon Bell's touchdown run. He has six receptions for 111 yards.
Despite the lead, the Spartans are trailing in time of possession to the Penguins, 22:56 to 17:12. But the scoreboard doesn’t care about that.
