Youngstown State Vs. Michigan State Final Score: Kirk Cousins Leads Spartans To 28-6 Victory Over Penguins

After a slow start to the game, the No. 17 Michigan St. Spartans defeated the Youngstown St. Penguins, 28-6, to open the season. Quarterback Kirk Cousins and running back Le'Veon Bell combined for three of the team's touchdowns.

Michigan State and Youngstown held one another scoreless in the first quarter, but running back Larry Caper scored a touchdown on a six-yard run to put the Spartans in the lead. Youngstown scored its only points less than five minutes later on a touchdown pass, but the kicker missed the extra point.

Le'Veon Bell increased the Spartans' lead later in the quarter with a three-yard touchdown run. Quarterback Kirk Cousins and wide receiver B.J. Cunningham connected on a 55-yard reception at the start of that drive. Cousins later threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to Cunningham. He went 18-of-22 for 221 yards while Cunningham finished with 129 yards on nine catches. Bell added a second touchdown in the fourth quarter.
