Case Keenum and the Houston Cougars’ offense racked up plenty of yards, but just barely escaped El Paso with a 49-42 win over UTEP.

    Houston Vs. UTEP: Case Keenum Piles Up Yards In 49-42 Win

    Keenum was his usual self, compiling ridiculous yardage while winging the ball all over the place in Houston’s high-powered offense. But this time around, UTEP was game, and fired back with big plays of its own to make things interesting throughout. By the time it was over, the Miners and Cougars had combined for 91 points and 1,251 yards of total offense, 713 of which came from Houston.

    Through five games, Keenum has thrown for 1,534 yards and 12 touchdowns to just two interceptions while completing 71 percent of his passes. While the level of competition has been far from superior -- not sure UTEP actually fielded a defense on Thursday -- his numbers are still jaw-dropping, as they have been throughout his career.

    Houston Vs. UTEP Halftime Score: Miners Surrender Surge, Keep Mining

    Lamaison struck back, however, leading the Miners on a nine-play, 63-yard drive that concluded with a 21-yard touchdown to Mike Edwards. So, yeah, the score is tied at the half between the 4-0 Cougars, who have one of the nation’s best offenses and the soon-to-be most productive quarterback of all time, and UTEP, which is UTEP.
