If Virginia Tech is trying to exorcise the demons from last season's loss to James Madison, then maybe scheduling Appalachian State--you know, the only other team to ever beat a ranked FBS squad--wasn't a great idea. The two squads will face off in Lane Stadium for the season opener, except this time expect the Hokies to pull out the stops to avoid embarrassment. Of course, they'll have to do it without their do-everything at quarterback, Tyrod Taylor. Logan Thomas will take the reins of the offense this year, and at 6-6, 245, he isn't nearly as fleet of foot as Taylor. He will have a deep receiving corps to throw to, however, featuring Jarret Boykin and (847 yards, 6 TDs last season) and Danny Coale (732 yards, 3 TDs).
Appalachian State Vs. Virginia Tech: Game Time, TV Schedule, Odds And More
The Virginia Tech Hokies look to redeem last season’s loss to James Madison against the Appalachian State Mountaineers of the FCS.
The Mountaineers are, per usual, coming off a solid season in the FCS ranks, going 10-3 and once again taking their conference crown. Unfortunately for the Hokies, a potent offense returns almost entirely intact. Quarterback DeAndre Presley was sensational in his first season under center, throwing for 2,631 yards and 21 touchdowns to just seven interceptions, in addition to 1,039 yards rushing and 13 touchdowns on the ground.
