SDSU’s Dontrell Onuoha Charged With Assault And Battery Felonies

San Diego St. Aztecs defensive lineman Dontrell Onuoha has been charged with two felonies following an on-campus beating incident in September.

San Diego St. Aztecs defensive lineman Dontrell Onuoha has been charged with two felonies after allegedly beating a victim on the San Diego State campus on September 25. He will be arraigned later this month.

From the San Diego Union Tribune:

The police report for the Sept. 25 beating said the victim suffered a right orbital eye fracture that required surgery. He has lost partial vision in his right eye and might not regain full vision, according to the report. San Diego police also had been investigating one of Onuoha’s teammates in the case: redshirt freshman running back Brandon Wright.

Wright’s attorney said the district attorney has told him they will not file charges against Wright. According to the police report, two suspects ran following the assault of the victim.

Onuoha garnered 13 tackles in a back-up role last season, but he is expected to play a prominent role on the defense this season.

Onuoha is the latest in a line of Aztec football players to run into trouble. Former Aztec receiver Jay Waddell was a suspect under investigation by police over a separate beating incident before being dismissed from the team. Recent transfer Dillon Baxter was also dismissed from the team for unspecified team violations.
