Oklahoma Football Adds Jalen Saunders, One Of Nation’s Best Deep Threats, And CB

Follow @SBNationCFB

The Oklahoma Sooners have lost 12 players to transfer over the past year and a half, including wide receiver Kameel Jackson earlier in the week. So, at last, some good news for OU on the transfer front.

According to John E. Hoover and others, Bob Stoops is picking up Arizona Wildcats cornerback Cortez Johnson, and Fresno St. Bulldogs home run threat Jalen Saunders will head to Norman. Both players are quoted in the report as confirming their decisions to head to Oklahoma.

While they’ll have to sit out 2012, each is an intriguing prospect. The 5’9 Saunders posted 1,156 yards from scrimmage and 14 touchdowns as a sophomore, posting a ridiculous 21.3 yards-per-catch average. That’s second in the country to only Stephen Hill. Oklahoma’s receiving corps is perhaps already the deepest in the country, so adding a tiny long bomb threat could be terrifying. The only catch: he doesn’t want to play in the slot, despite being small. That’s why he’s leaving Fresno, in fact.

Johnson doesn’t boast quite those numbers, but was in the running for a starting job this year before following Mike Stoops from Arizona. He played in eight games as a freshman.

You might remember Saunders from highlights such as this one, by the way:
