Ohio State Buckeyes tight end Jake Stoneburner and lineman Jack Mewhort were arrested for evading police after being spotted urinating in public in early June. They will reportedly lose their scholarships for the summer.
Jake Stoneburner, Jack Mewhort Lose Ohio State Scholarships, According To Report
The indefinite suspensions have now turned into the two players losing their scholarships, the school announced to The Cleveland Plain Dealer on Friday, after the two players pleaded guilty to a lesser charge.
Both players are key starters on the Buckeyes’ offense, so it’s no real surprise they were not just kicked off the football team entirely. According to the release, Stoneburner and Mewhort will be allowed to work out at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center but will not be able to work out with any other Buckeye players.

I can’t imagine living in a world in which Urban Meyer’s players miss actual game action due to inappropriate urination, but let’s just go ahead and let loose a scenario in which tight end Jake Stoneburner and tackle Jack Mewhort miss the opener against Miami (Ohio) due to their business-obstructin’ arrests.
Both are starters, for one thing.

The two were reportedly urinating outside a restaurant when police spotted them. They briefly fled, which was enough to get them arrested on a misdemeanor “obstructing official business” charge.
But while an indefinite suspension is hardly “double secret probation,” there’s still a long time to go before the 2012 season starts.

Turns out, Ohio State TE Jake Stoneburner wasn’t alone when he was arrested early Saturday morning for “obstructing official business.” In addition to Stoneburner, police also arrested offensive lineman Jack Mewhort, as well as a third person who isn’t affiliated with the Buckeyes’ football team.
