Nebraska’s Dave Rimington Inducted Into SB Nation College Football Hall of Fame

He has a reward named after him -- the one given every year to the best center in the nation. So it’s probably no surprise that fans chose Dave Rimington as one of the best in the history of the game.

It’s rare enough for a player to have one award named after him. It’s even more rare for a player to have two awards named after him, with one of those awards being presented by a conference in which he never actually played. So when it comes to which offensive lineman would win the fan vote for induction in the SB Nation College Football Hall of Fame, maybe we shouldn’t be that surprised that it was Dave Rimington who got the honors.

Corn Nation, our Nebraska blog, says Rimington was a cut above the rest.

His bio is nothing short of amazing. He was selected to the All-Big Eight first team three years in a row (1980, 1981, 1982). In 1981, he was selected as the Big Eight Offensive Player of the Year. (If you’ve ever heard of another offensive lineman being selected as a conference offensive player of the year, I’d love to hear about it.) I’ve always thought you had to be a little nuts to be a center, but Rimington was freakishly fast as a lineman.

Rimington won with 72 percent of the vote. He joins Ohio State’s Orlando Pace in the Hall.

The SB Nation College Football Hall of Fame is a summer project involving all of the network’s excellent college football blogs. Each community could nominate five of its own for inclusion, with 10 of those nominees being inducted by our selection committee, which included reps from most FBS conferences. The remaining 10 were chosen by public vote.
