Al Golden Allegedly Uses Equipment Manager To Commit Potential Recruiting Violations

A report released Friday by Yahoo! Sports alleges that Miami Hurricanes head coach Al Golden had direct knowledge of improper benefits and recruiting by then-equipment manager Sean “Pee Wee” Allen, a known associate of Nevin Shapiro.

A new report by Charlie Robinson of Yahoo! Sports that was released Friday could mean even more problems for the Miami Hurricanes, and especially for head coach Al Golden. The report found that Golden had direct knowledge that then-equipment manager Sean "Pee Wee" Allen had improper involvement with Miami recruits. Allen was once considered the right-hand man of Nevin Shapiro, the man who brought an NCAA investigation upon the program for providing improper benefits to players in the form of large sums of money.

Allen allegedly provided improper benefits beginning early on in his career at Miami through the summer of 2011 when he stopped working for the Hurricanes. A former staffer said that Golden used Allen as an “off-the-books” recruiter, making calls to local prospects and providing improper transportation to and from Miami’s campus.

Golden was hired in December of 2010 and took a hard line stance to run a clean program when the Shapiro scandal broke the following summer.

The latest allegations stem from Allen’s testimony in Shapriro’s bankruptcy case, as well several interviews Y! Sports had with sources being interviewed as part of the NCAA investigation.
