Vernon Davis will be leaving the Miami Hurricanes in order to transfer to the West Virginia Mountaineers, according to Chevas Clements, Davis' former head coach at Miami's Coral Reef High School. The freshman cornerback received his release from his Miami scholarship on Tuesday and is expected to arrive in West Virginia on Wednesday.

According to Clements, Davis left Miami because he felt as though he could no longer trust the coaching staff and believed he would not receive enough playing time.

Via the Miami Herald:

“He just felt like he couldn’t trust their coaches anymore,” Coral Reef coach Chevas Clements said. “He wasn’t happy. He saw how he had slid down the depth chart and how UM was going out and getting all these commitments from guys like [Miami Northwestern’s] Artie Burns and [Southridge’s] Jamal Carter. When was he going to play?”

Per NCAA rules, Davis will be ineligible to play in the 2012 season.
