The first of presumably many Urban Meyer victories in Columbus came today, as the Ohio State Buckeyes beat the Miami (OH) RedHawks soundly, 56-10.

Urban Meyer’s first game in Columbus was a rousing success, as Ohio State defeated Miami (OH) 56-10
Buckeyes starting quarterback Braxton Miller led the way for Ohio State, going 14-of-24 through the air with 205 yards and two touchdowns. Miller also rushed 17 times for 161 yards and a touchdown. He was complemented by halfback Carlos Hyde who rushed for 84 yards and two touchdowns on the afternoon.
Corey Brown was the target of choice for Miller, as he notched seven receptions for 87 yards and a touchdown.
The RedHawks, on the other hand, struggled both offensively and defensively, as a poor rushing output and a failure to maintain control of the football kept them out of the game seemingly from the opening kickoff. While Miami did pass for 314 yards and a touchdown, the team’s rushing total was -2 yards with a fumble. Miami’s Zac Dawset also tossed two interceptions, significantly hindering the RedHawks’ chances.
Box Score Hero: Typical to an Urban Meyer coached team, the Ohio State offense flowed through dual-threat quarterback Braxton Miller. He passed and ran for a combined 366 all-purpose yards with three touchdowns. He also had Ohio State’s longest run on the day, a 65-yard touchdown score to open the third quarter.
Rankings Ramifications: Well, it certainly did not hurt the No. 18 Buckeyes to win here, but where they wind up during next weeks polls will have more to do with how the teams ranked ahead of them perform during the remainder of the weekend.
But Did They Cover?: Oh yes. Ohio State was favored by 25 per most lines, while the game’s over/under was set at 50.
