Arkansas Vs. Alabama: Weird Things Happening In Front Of Weird Fans, Which Is Normal

Up yonder in The Ozarks, Arkansas and Alabama are playing in the rain this afternoon, which means weird, slippery things are happening at Razorback Stadium.

Like, say, an almost-nearly interception of Hogs backup-turned-starter Brandon Allen by Alabama defensive back Dee Milliner. Originally ruled a pick, it was overturned:

Also, weird stuff like the next play, a punt that looked like an Alabama fumble: (It was overturned, too)

You might think that all these close calls, combined with the gut-wrenching loss to Louisiana-Monroe in Little Rock last week, combined with the sheer being of head coach John L. Smith, combined with the program-derailing scandal that caused the firing of Bobby Petrino would doom Razorback Nation, or at least create some symptoms of football fan PTSD.

But believe it or not, this is a sign that all is well in Arkansas.

You know who’s a damn fine filmmaker? That P.T. Anderson. He’s got a new movie out this weekend that’s more than likely about how a giant, globe-spanning cult works.

You know who are damn enthusiastic fans? Arkansas fans. No coincidence at all.

“The will of one man is the basis of cult.” That one man used to be this one man, but he’s probably caddying for his daughter this weekend, so it’s this one man, emphatically making spirit fingers on a rainy day in Fayetteville.
